Hey everyone!
First off, thanks for all the follows, ratings, comments, and feedback! Weiner King started suddenly as a goof and now I do want to make it the best I can thanks to you guys.
Some history to set the scene for this game~
I only recently started doing NSFW illustrations. Mostly just to see if I could and somewhat out of frustrations my regular illustrations never gaining any sort of momentum. After spending a few weeks of lewd drawing I randomly decided to check out Ren'Py and RPG Maker. I obviously went with Ren'Py. I have spent some time learning basic game dev in Unity and Unreal but neither venture was fruitful, so going into something a little more simple was very exciting for me. I made version 1 on Weiner King in one night. I made every illustration and line of code on the spot as I went. It's rough, I know, but I'm proud of what I could make. And again, I can't thank you guys enough for all the feedback. Even a little goes a long way to inspire.
Current State:
Weiner King Preview 1.5 was mainly a refinement of the skeleton that I wish to build off. This included redoing art assets, making new assets for easier iteration in the future, rewriting content, and introducing more ideas as a springboard for future updates. For example, the relationship and lust systems do absolutely nothing in this build. The story is also directionless except for the vaguest sense of where I want to go with it.
What to Expect Going Forward:
Firstly, I am starting off writing the dialogue before hand. Partially because at over 1000 lines of code in, it is getting harder and harder to write on the fly and make adjustments as needed. Mainly because, I believe, visual novels live and die by their story. With this new emphasis on writing expect a greater understanding of the characters and a clearer, if not more engaging, plot. This also includes offering more options in conversations that currently exist. For example, in a conversation with Riley the POV character states they majored in Communications. I'd rather have dialogue like this to be up to the player and provide interesting changes and consequences as the player progresses in the game.
My main goal for the next update is just more of the same. Like mentioned previously, the relationship and lust systems as of now are useless. I plan on making your daily interactions with the characters change depending on both these stats. For instance, when you meet Riley in the living room her workout scene will change depending on your relationship with her and your lust level.
I also plan on introducing a money and inventory system. As it stands, both seem simple enough. However giving players a menu and a clearer understanding of where they stand with these stats is proving difficult to me. I attempted to introduce this in the current build but I am inexperienced and stupid and just couldn't get it to work.
As the relationships with the ladies and the plot furthers, I also plan to include more locations, jobs, and characters. These may have to wait for a more eventual build, however.
As much as I'd like to bring every piece of art that currently exists up to a point where I wouldn't change a thing, I think my current priorities as far as art goes is to just create new pieces as the need arises. I'd love all of the art to be completely outstanding but right now I'd rather offer a compelling story and game with okay art than a boring game with the best drawn boobies you ever did see.
